The Foreigner is fun-filled entertainment By Shiona Watson Special to HHTW Deep in Georgia, recently widowed Betty Meeks is contentedly running her fishing lodge catering to Catherine and Ellard Simms, as well as Catherine’s fiancé, the Reverend David Marshall Lee. Catherine worries that her younger, intellectually-chal- lenged brother is not capa- ble of inheriting his part of their late father’s estate and David is being as attentively sympathetic as he can. On to the scene burst Sgt. “Froggy” LeSoeur, a British Army explosives expert and his’ cuckolded friend, Charley Baker. Charley’s wife indulges in habitual affairs and is now dying, causing Charley to take this much needed break in the wilds of the southern States. To avoid the embarrass- ment of conversing, with the other residents, Charley pre- tends to be a foreigner who understands no English. This leads to his becom- ing party to all the secrets of the other players, including the local building inspector, own, and with the help of the others, thwarts the atten- tion of the Ku Klux Klan. The Foreigner opens Oct. 22 at the John Elliott Theatre with other dates Oct. 23, 27-30. Tickets are $8 Wednesday and Thursday, $10 Friday and Saturday.
