AVOID INSURANCE RATE HIKES Ex-police officer will represent you in court Garth Turner, Halton-Peel PC federal election candi- date and Canada’s National Revenue Minister, warned that published Reform Party and Liberal policy docu- ments forecast significant tax increases down the road for middle-class Canadians. Speaking to the national \ euerene of the Employee Shar OF wnership Association of Canada in Toronto, Turner pointed out that the “zero in three” plan of the Reform Party calls for severe spending cuts in social programs and hefty tax increases. Under that plan, Reform seer Preston Manning ‘woul a cain taxes on small and medium-sized businesses by $1.5 billion * Raise Unemployment Insurance payments by employees by $1.6 billion * Raise UI payments by employers by $2.4 billion The Reform plan also calls for a $3.5 billion cut in seniors’ pensions. Preston Manning would start taxing back pensions at a family income level of $45,000 and DIAMOND “DIAMOND* RINGS STUDS 10 pts total weight 20.40% || 179,00 Prices from Reg 120.00 and up 249.00 STONE AND _ GOLD RINGS FREE Ladies and Gents GIFT WRAPPING PRECIOUS AUSTRIAN CRYSTAL FIGURINES 20% OFF 0 . If you are a senior, with an income of $34,000 and your spouse makes just $20,000, do you really cease to have your pen- sion cut’ Turer also asked how the Reform plan, with $5.5 bil- lion in new taxes and spend- ing cuts of $13 billion could create more jobs at a time when too many Canadians are unemployed. Turner also casts scrutiny on the Liberal economic plan and its spending increases. “Canadians know only too well that more spending equals more taxes,” Turner said. “Always has. Always will. And there’s nobody in Canada who knows better than I do - as Minister of National Revenue -. that Canadians are taxed out. “We just can’t take it any- more. There’s no more blood to give.” Turner quéstioned Liberal plans to maintain a $25 bil- lion annual deficit - which will increase the country’s overall debt by more than $100 billion over four years. By that time, under the Liberal plan, more than 40 per cent of all the money Canadians send to Ottawa will be used to pay interest» on the debt. Turner pointed out the Liberals’ job-creation spending program will add $6 Billion to taxes, $2 bil- lion of that directly from municipal property taxes. “Prime Minister Kim Campbell is the only major party leader today saying there will be no new taxes and no tax increases,” Turner told the conference, “and that is exactly what the people in my riding want. It’s what I want. It’s why I stood to be an MP five years ago, and it is why I am com- mitted in this election cam- paign to tell people the straight facts.
