PAGE4 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME 1, ISSUE 10 EDITORIAL . ‘With Scott Brooks It is hard to believe that August is already upon us, but here we are wondering where the bigger part of the summer has gone! Now while we are nearing the end of summer, it would be wrong to say there is nothing left to do as there is still lots of events scheduled to take place to finish off the remainder of the season—all within our beloved community of Acton. As part of this edition of The Acton Monthly, I had the pleasure of talking with event organizers to help promote the various upcoming events within our community. One summer event that is coming up is the annual Leathertown Festival on Sunday, August 13th. Hosted by the Downtown Acton BIA, this one-day event features fun for the entire family with live musical performances, shows, and vendors, all lining up and down Mill Street. Be sure to read more about Leathertown with the article on page 7. Looking further ahead into September, you can look forward to the annual Acton Fall Fair on September 15th to the 17th in Prospect Park. According to President, Dave Somerville, you can expect to see a mix of new and old traditions at this year’s fair, so be sure to mark your calendar and spend the week- end at Ontario’s best little fair! More info on the Fall Fair can be found by turning to page 10. Also happening on the fair weekend is the annual Terry Fox Run on September 17th. You can read all about the importance of supporting this annual cancer research fundraiser through Jon Hurt’s special article on page 12. Additionally, you can view more Acton events on page 15 through the Community Calendar. So be sure to get out and support all these events before summer completely passes you by! Things are growing up! The Acton Community Garden, located at Rotary Park on Elizabeth Drive, appears to be quite lively with plants. This is thanks in-part to the efforts of the many volunteers who look after the garden on a weekly basis and the great amounts of rain that fell on Acton so far this summer.
