VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 THE ACTON MONTHLY PAGE 13 100 Women Who Care Halton Hills Celebrate 5 Years of Giving It was an evening full of smiles and laughs as the 100 Women Who Care Halton Hills celebrated 5 years of giving. Held on November 16th, at the Acton Town Hall Centre, the evening of celebration started off with a toast of sparkling apple cider and was an opportunity for the group of dedicated women to look back at where they started and to see the impact they have made in the past five years. Since starting in November 2018, 100 Women Who Care Halton Hills has donated over $134,000 to more than 20 local charities and not-for-profit organizations. The 100 Women Who Care meet four times a year, nominat- ing local charities prior to each meeting and then, during the meeting, they draw three of the nominations from a hat. From there, the nominator of each charity will speak for a couple of minutes, persuading why their charity should be picked to receive a donation. After hearing the pitches, members then vote for who they think should be awarded the money and then, from that vote, a winning charity is selected. During this evening of celebration, three charities / not-for- profit organizations were nominated which included the Halton Learning Foundation, Light Up The Hills and the Townsend-Smith Foundation for the construction of the North Halton Hospice. After the votes were cast, the Townsend- Smith Foundation was selected as the recipient for the latest donation. Previously, at the August meeting, Heritage Acton was the recipient of $6,400 that was put towards paying for a new kitchen stove at the Acton Town Hall Centre. Guest speaker and member Mayor Ann Lawlor says they are a group of empowered women who are willing to rise to the challenge and ensure that needs are being met, despite the on-going economic hardships that many are currently facing. “We're committed to healthy and vibrant communities, where people’s needs are met, where we try to ensure that no one is left behind, And we also know that by pooling our resources, we can have a bigger impact, and that taking care of one another takes money... 100 Women are thankfully stepping up with their cheque books and they're ready to share.” If you are interested in joining 100 Women Who Care Halton Hills, or for more information, you can visit their website at 100womenhaltonhills.com.
