PAGE 6 THE ACTON MONTHLY VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2 Town Council News With Ann Lawlor, Mayor of Halton Hills In our households, businesses and at Town Hall, December is a month for year-end reconciliations, planning for an even better year to come and seasonal celebrations. A year-end audit of our public green space will include a new acquisition just southeast of Acton. CRH Canada has transferred 35 hectares of quarry lands to the Town. The parcel is located south of Glen Lawson Road, west of Fourth Line and includes lands along Black Creek. Ownership of these lands ensures that the Town. tion opportunities for current and future residents of the Town. The lands will not be immediately open to the public and instead, will be managed by the Town as natural areas until a master plan has been. completed. The master plan will include a public consultation process in 2024 to solicit input on potential recreational opportunities. 2024 business plan and budget deliberations are currently taking up a significant amount of council time. We know that residents value all the services, from road repairs and snow plowing to parks maintenance, swimming lessons and library programs. However, just as households are facing increases in expenses, council is seeing insurance, construction and other costs rising. It will be a challenge to keep the budget to the level of inflation. Winter road maintenance is one area that can never be eliminated from the budget! Please help our road crews by keeping cars off the road overnight. And be nice; clear your ice and snow from sidewalks adjacent to your property. Thanks, your neighbours will appreciate it! In your planning for next year, e sure to check out the program offerings from our Recreation and Parks department. Registration opens on December 5 for winter programs ranging from swimmi to adult fitness and kids’ dance. It’s not too early to register for March Break camps, too! As mayor, it was a pleasure to participate in the Santa Claus parade and see hundreds of residents with smiles on their faces ready to enjoy the holiday organizing a great display. At this time, there are ma: opportunities to share with others in our community. A Christmas tree is in the foyer of the Town Hall and members of staff and council will be giving nonperishable food items for donation to the Acton Foodshare and the Georgetown Breadbasket. May you all enjoy the holiday season with family and friends. Mayor Ann Lawlor can be contacted via email: mayor@haltonhills.ca r more Town happenings, visit haltonhills.ca 67 MILL Sr. E.
