ee Page 16 — Halton Hills This. Week, Saturday, October 23;:1993 RR AN OPEN LETTER TO THE , VOTERS OF HALTON-PEEL Travelling across this tiding for the last year, I’ve listened to you speak about the kind of country in which you want to live. At the heart of things, you've said that you want real and positive change So that you and your families can better fulfill your dreams and aspirations. Through Reform. Positive change is now much closer than we imagine. ‘ As more and more Canadians choose constructive change and reject “politics as usual”, vicious and false attacks on Reform increase. I am asking you to reject the Politics of fear practiced by the old-line Politicians, and urge you to support the positive change that Reform represents. Reform’s proposals to balance Canada’s books offer hope. It’s common sense that you can’t borrow your way to prosperity, only to bankruptcy. By controlling government spending, eliminating waste, and setting spending priorities, we will be on the road to lower taxes, to good jobs, and to saving the social programs that we all value and need, spending, the programs are in trouble. Reform is facing up to the problems by discussing them with Canadians, and by pledging to preserve full federal funding for our highest Priorities, including health care. Like you, we want quality health care when we need it, Tegardless of our personal financial Situation. Reform also wants to save the heart of our Pension system s0 seniors can feel Secure about their future. Reform’s proposals to festore democracy to the political system offer hope. By giving the people the power to recall their MPs, politicians will be accountable to.us, both morally and legally; and by holding referendums on major issues, including referendums initiated by the people, Canadians will be heard all of the time, not just at election time. And Reform’s commitment to the equality of all Canadians is our pledge that no federal Policy will discriminate against anyone because of race, language, culture, creed or gender. Reform’s proposal for a ponsible minority g ‘nt, sensitive to the wishes of the people, offers hope. The Liberals are now demanding a Majority in Parliament. On what basis? Would Mr. Chretien raise taxes? He hasn’t said. He’ll scrap the GST and replace it with an equivalent tax. And he says “Let me win the election and after that you ask me questions about how I run the government”. This is the man who Was finance minister when.the Liberals ran-up the largest single deficit (so far) in Canadian history — 38,5:billion: When the Liberals left office in cheque Majority government. Canadians have a lot to gain from a tesponsible minority government, kept honest by Reformers, We'can make a responsible minority government work by “breaking the back” of party discipline and making it possible to defeat a government bill without defeating the government. Finally, for a Minority Parliament to work for Canada, the Balance of Power must be held by federalists, not separatists. This means that, in the next Parliament, Bloc Quebecois members must be outnumbered by Reformers. > You can reject the policies of fear, embrace Positive change, and help make a tesponsible minority government work by supporting me on October 25th. You can make this election. count by voting with the courage of conviction for what you believe to be fight for yourself, your children, and your country. Yours sincerely, Dick MacDuffee REFORM E> : PARTY OF CANADA MACODUFFEE, Dick seesee Reform Party / Parti R6formiste ......
