HOCKE p Repo M&M Raiders bomb Hespeler The Georgetown M&M Pro Sports Minor Peewee Raiders came up with a big win last Sunday, shutting out Hespeler 7-0. Georgetown started out i control of the game in the first period by keeping the puck in the Hespeler zone. ‘The first goal was scored at the 5:38, mark, unassisted, by Josh Travers, followed shortly after at 4:55 by a goal from Matt Hotham assisted by a good pass from Mike Rovere. yetown’s power play was. in action for the 3rd goal at the 2:15 mark by Jason Campbell, assisted by Roddy Heinz and Matt Hotham. Good teamwork from Georgetown brought the first period to a quick end with Georgetown leading 3-0. Hespeler determined to get on the scoreboard in the second period, tumed up the heat with a few shots, but came up short due to the good goaltending by Ryan Carter. Good set-up plays by Roddy Heinz, Jason King, Jason Campbell, Jason Hayes and Bryan Stuttard almost resulted in several more goals but the Hespeler players blocked their efforts. Brent McClung and Derek Mitchell kept the Hespeler goalie busy ith some good hard shots but the second period ended with a 3-0 lead still in effect for Georgetown. With only one period left, the Hespeler team again tried with several shots and some close plays in front of the Georgetown net but Sean Muscat, Tommy Dales and goalie Ryan Carter refused to let the puck in. Hespeler had the advantage © when Georgetown was short-handed but again, good plays and quick thinking by Brent McClung and Matt Hotham gave Ryan Bobor the opportu- nity to slip the 4th goal in for Georgetown. Good defense plays by Andrew Black and Bryan Stuttard kept Hespeler at a distance. Again, back in the Hespeler end, Matt Hotham sent a good pass over to Brent McClung who then came up with one of his famous slapshots from the blueline which the Hespeler goalie never even saw, thus upping Georgetown’s lead to 5-0. To add the finishing touches on the game, Josh Travers netted his second goal at the 1:31 mark brought the final numbers on the score- board Georgetown 7, Hespeler 0. A well deserved shutout for Ryan Carter and great effort for all players. The team now stands at 10 wins and six losses. The next home game for the M&M Pro Sports Minor Peewee Raiders will be Sunday (tomorrow) against Milton, 5:30 p.m. at etown Alcott Arena. Major Novice Raiders split tourney games The Major Novice Raiders traveled to Seaforth last Saturday for a tournament. Their first game was at 9:15 a.m. against Wingham. The Raider squad totally dominated the game. The first period was kept scoreless. The Raiders were fast and furious to claim four in the second. r Goal-scorers included Brett Velten from Brent Beaumont and Jeff Boyce; Kevin Oulds from Dustin McKnight; Billy McDonald from Kevin Oulds and Byron Jacome and Brent Beaumont from Jeff Boyce. The Raider squad dumped one more in the 3rd to claim the 5-0 victory. Credit for the shorthanded goal Velten from Billy McDonald and Brent Beaumont. Goal tender Donnie Lane manned the net and came away with a shutout. The Major Novice Raiders came up against Clearwater in their second game of the tour- Clearwater opened the scor- ing but the Raiders were quick to come back and tie the first period 1-1. Brent Beaumont once again ‘am th for his team with the help of Billy McDonald. Brett Velten opened the scoring in the second, unassist- ed. Clearwater was able to tie up the game with the Raiders two-men short. The Raider opponents were able to squeeze another in the second and two more in the third to down the Raiders 5-2. Donnie Lane and Billy McDonald took to the ice again after the game for a shoot-out contest. Donnie was eliminated after stopping two out of three shots. His oppo- nent stopped all three. Billy McDonald dumped in four of his six shots in the first round to move on to the second. Billy McDonald squeezed one shot in out of three by deeking the ie. His opponent claimed two, leaving him eliminated. The Major Novice Raider squad were loud and clear, cheering their teammates on.
