- Description
- On the left at the corner is the post office, facing the camera is Ledwith's grocery store, in the distance is a two-storey semi-detached house on the south side of Mary Street, on the right hand corner is the Dewar Block. A two-storey brick house is on the right hand side on the corner of Mill and Martin St. On the left of the picture behind the Supersweet Feeds sign and just in front of the post office building an ivy-covered chimney can be seen and the roof-line of an older house - this was Dr. Stevenson's house which was also used as Milton's first hospital.
Further information from N. J. Devlin - "The white building on the right hand side by the tree was the site of Milton Dairy in the 1950s. The flat-roofed brick building behind it was Mr. Ed Gawronski's pharmacy." - Notes
- The Supersweet Feeds sign has gone and also the feed mill - it has been replaced with apartment blocks. The post office is now a restaurant; a new post office was built on Brown Street. Ledwith's grocery store became Quality Greens grocery store. The grocery store closed and the property divided into a fast-food restaurant and a furnishing/decorating store. The semi-detached house was demolished c.1970s and is now a parking lot. The Dewar Block remains stores and offices. The brick house on the right-hand side is a lawyer's office. The one-storey Ledwith store is now a two-storey building with apartments on the second floor - this floor was added c.1960s by Mike Ledwith.
