Description: The Azores are a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean situated approximately 1500 km from Lisbon. They are of volcanic origin and have a total area of 2355 square km. They were discovered in 1427 and at that time no humans were living on the islands. Pictured here is a village in the Azores visited by the Langmuirs and Davis' during their travels.
