Description: The Azores are a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean situated approximately 1500 km from Lisbon. They are of volcanic origin and have a total area of 2355 square km. They were discovered in 1427 and at that time no humans were living on the islands. This photograph illustrates the thick vegetation common in the Azores.
