- The Azores are a group of islands in the Atlantic Ocean situated aproximately 1500 km from Lisbon. They are of volcanic origin and have a total area of 2355 square km. They were discovered in 1427 and at that time no humans were living on the islands. While vacationing in the Azores Ed Langmuir snaps a photo of a seaside village.
