Mrs. Thomas Coates, Snr., was born in Yorkshire, England. Approximately 1808 she married Thomas Coates. They had two sons and three daughters. In 1816 they came to Canada and soon settled on a bush farm near Milton. This photograph was published in "Milton Semi-Centennial 1857-1907".
