This gentleman is Dr. Hugh Reid McDonald who served the Kilbride area for over 51 years. He graduated from McGill University with degrees in Medicine and Surgery. He served in WW1 along with Lt. Col. John McCrae, and was asked by McCrae to read 'In Flanders Fields' with regards to the use of the words 'blow' and 'grow'. The rest is history. Dr. McDonald was much loved by generations in the area, delivering over 1,000 babies. He enjoyed privileges at Hamilton General, St. Josephs, Joseph Brant and Milton District Hospitals. He was married to Florence Williamson. He died September 23, 1974 at Joseph Brant Hospital in his 83rd year. Dr. McDonald was a Past Master of Campbell Lodge AF & AM No. 603, a 32 degree member of the Scottish Rite, and past Grand Steward. In 1968 an open house was held in Kilbride where over 500 attended to thank the doctor for his then 45 years of service to the community, and generations of its residents.
