Dear Mother,
your letter enclosing your sisters relating the particulars of uncle John’s death is received. I am glad you had it in your possession as it contained considerable information. But you did not tell me the name of the “hill” on which Samuel Howard lived. Did the Howard family own their residence, and be likely to still occupy the same house. What is the first name of Uncle John’s widow; is it Mary, Jane, or Susan? Do you remember the letter you had from some one in Burlingame Kansas...in regard to getting an estate through “Guns Agency" in London I...that letter...right away. I am going to a lawyer to get information so that I can go to...property....
I believe the 50 pounds left to Uncle Dean & John Howard now that they are dead goes back to the amourit left to you and patience. Should I be right your phase will be increased 50 pounds. This matter has been on my mind for three months - it came to me like an inspiration, but being sick so much this winter I have not been able to attend to it. Not one of the family have had enough interest to expressd any...in investigating the matter - I intend to get the rights of it before I stop. It is not necessary to tell Lizzie or Sylvester what I am doing - time enough when I am through. I hope you will live to enjoy your Brother's gift. Write immediately and enclose the letter I need.
