Front:
This dairy at Petite Trianon (latter built by Louis XV for Mme du Barry) was the property of poor Marie Antoinette, her pleasure and pastime.

Reverse reads:
"Aug 8/10. Left Paris, dearest Louise, 8 a.m. today. Will not reach Bingen on Rhine until 9 p.m. Such a funny time at the border between France & Germany in customs examinations, but it was the cause of a friend of my brother Murray & Mollie who recognized me & boarding the train again, we had a delightful talk. We have had a great charming week in Paris, where we stayed with a lovely French lady, recommended by Will Burgess, close by the Bois de Boulogne. I enjoyed immensely all I was able to do. All at Versailles is wonderful, & then Louvre, Notre Dame, Pantheon, & many places recalling French history. Isn't it lovely to have ones mind refreshed thus? But I wear out, & several times I've had to "lay off" a day & rest. Our week, too, in London was very delightful & the 4 days coaching thro' lovely, wonderful, never to be forgotten Devonshire, across Exmoor covered with heather (saw Lorna Doone's marriage church). That coast is most beaut. I never can forget our 2 days sail down the Thames, so lovely. We are nearing the Rhine & the Mts. with the grape vines growing all the way up them for miles, are so lovely, deep valleys running between them. Oh it's a beaut. country & tomorrow we sail down the R. from Bingen to Cologne. Am thinking of you much these days & wishing to hear from you. Wonder if you received a baby jacket I sent you in June. Much love from us all.
H.O. Irving."
