- Notes
- In this interview, Wess McIntosh speaks about his extensive involvement with the Canadian forces, first with the naval reserves and then with the airforce. Wes joined the navy in 1933, but he also started learning to fly in 1934. From there, he received his private pilot’s license in 1934 and his commercial license in 1935. In 1937, he made a trip to Vancouver for naval training and from there spent from January to April in the West Indies playing war games. When the war started, Wes was granted permission to leave the navy and signed up with the RCAF. Besides flying into Gibraltar from Bathurst, he flew all over Canada in wartime. Over the course of the war, he crossed the Atlantic 37 times.
