This photo certainly brings back great memories. The IDA sign is Stoddart's Drug Store. I believe Mr. Stoddart was a pharmacist. Further along the block, my dentist Dr. Merriam had an upstairs unit. There was a restaurant at the end of the unit and them Bamber's groceries. Mr. Wakely had a hardware store and downstairs he had a pet store component that I believe his oldest son Peter looked after. I also believe there was a jewellery store next door to the IDA. Around the corner to the drug store, there was a hobby shop that closed and became a barber shop. Haircuts until about 1965 were a quarter.
The Power store was built maybe a year or so after 1957 in the area to the right of the dark coloured vehicle on the right side of the photo.
Behind the Power store was Inglewood Drive and Stanbury Park. We lived at 133 Inglewood Drive from 1953 to 1969. Played lots of sports in the park including ice hockey, baseball, touch football, golf. Also spent substantial time playing road hockey at Power store parking lot on Sunday (store was closed on Sundays those days) and other days of the week we played road hockey at the back of the building (I guess you might say a mis-spent youth) we used the metallic milk baskets for goal posts. "Back in the day"
I believe the road hockey there ended for me approximately spring of 1969, before we moved.
Thanks for the memories, John Ritchie

What a great picture! I live in that building currently. My suite is on the end of the building, above what is now Cowan square I believe. The building has a lot of original touches, like marble window ledges, and some unique architectural features inside. A great spot to take in all the activity like the Santa Clause parade and Christmas tree lighting!
