ESQUESING HISTORICAL SOCIETY Newsletter may/june '92 CEDARVALE FARM Upon the conclusion of the First World War, Canadians looked beyond the borders to the less fortunate peoples of the world. One of the first international causes was the plight of the Armenian people of Turkey. In 1922, Turkish Armenians were expelled or exterminated. Many fled and many were exiled. In 1921(2) the Armenian Relief Fund of Canada was formed. The objective was to bring Armenian orphans to Canada and make them 'Canadian'. The Fund was to look after the boys until the age of 18. Lot 17, concession 9, just south of Georgetown, known as CedarVale Farm was selected. William Bradley sold 135 acres of his land to the Fund. Thirty-five acres remained orchard. Boys 8-12 years were selected and they arrived on the Radial Railway on 01 July 1923. Another 40 arrived on 02 October 1924. The stage was set for Canadian aid. 1
