SMITH & STONE OPENS by J.M. Rowe The year 1919 was certainly a banner year for Georgetown industry. At the Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting at the Town Hall in February 1920, the new president L.E. Fleck, claimed it was the greatest industrial expansion of any year in Georgetown's history! Heading the list were "Messrs. Smith and Stone... enormous additions to Provincial Paper and Georgetown Coated Paper Mills and a basket factory" On top of that the substantial homes erected by Mr. John Ballantine and Mr. John Willoughby were mentioned. Finally, the paving of Main Street was heralded as the dawn of better road conditions. -information from Georgetown Herald, 3 March, 1920 William Smith, "Benny" Stone fathers of Smith and Stone "Benny Stone married Harrietta Wynston in 1917....It was A.L.
