Mark Rowe ARCHIVAL NEWS Lisa Forbes of Acton was an employee of the Esquesing Historical Society this summer under a reduced grant from the Ministry of Human Resources. We only had funding for six weeks, compared with 12 weeks in previous years. Consequently Lisa's tasks were limited. Nevertheless the Society gratefully acknowledges the Federal grant from the Ministry of Human Resources for their Summer Career Placement program. Lisa's principal task was to update the EHS Finding Aid for the Archives and convert it to HTML, which will enable us to put it on the internet, making it searchable by everyone in the world! When it is ready it will be on our web site. Anyone can search the Archives database for information of interest to them. So when you make the trip to the Georgetown Library, you'll know just what to ask for. If you can't make it to the Archives, the Society volunteers can make photocopies (if not too fragile) and send them off for a small fee. Requests can even be e-mailed to the Society by clicking on our e-mail address on the web page. It is advisable to request an estimated cost before ordering any copies from the Archives. Sorry, but we don't have easy access to a scanner to send off copies via the internet. How much technology are you expecting from a small volunteer Society? If only some British Societies would do as much as we are. It would make international research so much easier and more affordable! INTERNET CONNECTIONS The Esquesing Historical Society now has an official web site on the World Wide Web. You can visit us at <www. hhpl. on. ca/sigs/ehs/home. html> Send your e-mail to rowem@aztec-net.com or dlvngstn@stn.net EHS NEWSLETTER This newsletter was prepared by John Mark Rowe with assistance from Karen Hunter and Dawn Livingstone. SCHOOL RECORDS As promised in the last newsletter, the job of transcribing every name in every Esquesing School register in our possession has begun. Due to funding cutbacks, our student employee could not tackle this task. But fear not, the best volunteer available was put on the job -Marshall Neilson! We have tracked down two registers held by Halton Region Museum and had a donation of several more Glen Williams Registers. Could you ask friends and relatives to check for other Registers we could borrow, copy and perhaps even keep? Contact Mark Rowe or Geoff Cannon at the Library. FAMILY HISTORY SEARCHES Due to the increasing demand for information on local history and local families, the Esquesing Historical Society executive decided to institute a minimum charge for searches. Since we have provided so much information on the internet for free, we feel justified in joining the ranks of volunteer organizations that charge a fee for time and materials. Therefore effective immediately, there will be a minimum charge of $5.00 for all postal or e-mail inquiries. Copying and postal charges will be added to the fee. Inquirers will be informed of the charges before our volunteers proceed. All monies will be put in the Archives budget of the Society. GLEN LAWSON PAMPHLET After much pre-publication promotion, the Esquesing Historical Society is pleased to announce the availability of the latest member of our pamphlet family, Glen Lawson.
