Mark Rowe ARCHIVAL NEWS Thanks to Geoff Cannon at the Library, part of our summer student's efforts are available on the internet. Lisa Forbes marked our Archives Finding Aide for HTML which means you can search our Archives from your computer or the Library computer. This is a tremendous boon to users of the Archives and will make it easier for others to search for local history. The Question which EHS Archivist J.M. Rowe received: Dear municipal colleagues: I would like to acquire copies of records retention by-laws, particularly if these have been crafted with archival input. Such samples are of extreme value to me. I'd also be interested in acquiring examples of municipal mandate and policy statements. Thanks in advance! Brian Masschaele AAO Archives Advisor The reply which we received: From: Dorothy McDonald <DorothyM@Town.Halton-Hills.on.ca> advisor@execulink.com' ^ Mayor@Town.Halton-Hills.on.ca>; 'rowem@aztec-net.com' Date: December 3, 1998 7:08 AM Subject: Records Retention >In reply to your message regarding records retention by-laws that have archival input, I wish to advise that our present by-law requires updating and will be a project undertaken in 1999. At this time, it only addresses the Town's records and does not really pertain to historical matters. >Once our new by-law is drafted, I would be glad to send you a copy. Please contact me if you have any further questions. >Thanks, >Dorothy McDonald, >Deputy Clerk >Town of Halton Hills NEW ACQUISITIONS Donald Lawson, whose family ran the mill at Stewartown, recently made an interesting donation to our archives. He has given us an original copy of the 1877 Halton County Atlas, and farmers transaction/ledger books from the mill from the years 1919-1953. A small scrapbook contains a few newspaper clippings of local interest. It is through donations like these that we keep our history alive for future generations, and we thank Don Lawson for his contribution.
