Cole, Dawn and Jake Livingstone, Bud and Christine Bishop and Betty Hunter . HERITAGE GRANT The Esquesing Historical Society is pleased to acknowledge our annual grant from the Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation. The Organization Development grant of $789 was higher than last years grant. The amount of the grant is based on the activity of the Society during the previous year. MEMBERSHIP We have a total membership of 95 for 1998. Please pay your renewal fee of $8 by our February meeting. CEMETERY ON CIVIC CENTRE PROPERTY BEING INVESTIGATED The Town of Halton Hills are doing a survey of their property around the Civic Centre to locate and mark the cemetery on the property. The Society has long reminded the Town about the cemetery. Even before the Civic Centre was built. Mrs. Lucy Emslie drew the matter to the attention of the Society. The Society hopes a full report will be made available when the search is concluded. *************************************** * ELECTION TIME DRAWS NEAR We're not talking about the Quebec election, but the Esquesing Historical Society's Annual General meeting in February. That's the time to confirm and elect officers for the executive of the Society. Please consider donating some time to the EHS in the next year by becoming a member of the executive. If you would like to be our nomination officer (you can't run for office), contact Sherry Westfahl for this once a year position. WE HAVE A QUERY A couple of local history queries have been received recently, through the website on the Internet. Someone has been inquiring about the photographer Ferguson, of Georgetown, when he was in business, and where. His name was found on a photograph when it was taken from its frame. On the back of the frame was a stamp for George W.C.Graham, Furniture and Undertaking, Georgetown. The photograph appears to be from about 1890-1900. Can anyone give us any further details about either of these two establishments, please? Another query, from Vancouver, is about a Harrison family. Rev Thomas Harrison, was born in Esquesing on 04 July 1860 and was a minister in the Wesleyan Methodist Church here. If you know anyone researching this family, please contact Dawn Livingstone. And Yet Another Local History Question A token that will be brought to the January meeting is of local interest, but its origin is not known. It is from the "Halton Chapter No. 234. RAM. Georgetown, Out" It is a copper coloured "one cent" token, about 1 1/2 in diameter. Come out to the January meeting, have a look and give us your guess...
