FIRST WHITE CHILD BORN IN GEORGETOWN The Esquesing Historical Society received a very interesting submission through our website to the Archives. The wonderful electronic donation - the first - was received September 30, 1999 at 17:48 PM by J. M. Rowe, Archivist. It shows Harriet Kennedy Higgins. The donor explains: Hi: I am the great great grandson of Harriet Kennedy, the first white child born in Georgetown (Hungry Hollow). I understand that Georgetown was named after her father George Kennedy. Harriet Kennedy married John Higgins and they moved to Bracebridge where I live now. I have an old tin-type photo of Harriet Kennedy which I have included as an attachment. Thought that you might be interested and perhaps can have this included in the photographic collection found in Halinet. Sincerely, John Reynolds Another EHS first is the submission of memories to the Society by e-mail. Mr. G.A. Sutherland sent the following message to Dawn Livingstone. It was originally written in upper case letters with no spacing between words. I have edited the message to make it legible. You certainly do remember the area well. Bert Benton and his wife still live in Limehouse, and are active members of the Presbyterian Church there. Neil Benton passed away a few years ago, as did Don Lindsay. I wonder who would have been the minister at Limehouse church when you went there? I am not sure about Mr. & Mrs. Early, but their beautiful home is still there. It was actually a nursing home for a few years, but is once again a private resident. You would be thinking about Bob Goldham, the NHL hockey player from Georgetown, whose father Harry Goldham was a Georgetown Main Street Butcher.
