liflmrlojc to the editor dear sir your very excellent editorial in lit weeks acton free press la in deed worthy of an answer your statement that none of the three parties running for election have any policy in regard to the sale of liquor is inaccurate however the ccs party would like the sale of all intoxicating drink to be gov ernment controlled many beer parlours closed hours of sale cur tailed and a thorough education against this evil spread by means of the schools in the province this has been the ccf answer i have heard given at a few meet ings where the qucuion was put it is strange that we are so sel dom asked about this very grave matter but i would like to point out here that unlike the two old parties the ccf has no money interest in the liquor business and is therefore not controlled by it education would play a big part in keeping the young folks away from drink but poverty create more drinkers than is realised good clean homes with healthy well fed and happy people will do more to eliminate drink and crime than all the policies preaching aye and prayers in the world drink is often a way of escape from ap palling conditions the ccjf is trying to make conditions better thank you for drawlnetthls matter toouraitejatlnn i am yours very truly lhtelvbe ltj save thie forests soon the forests and woods will be tinder dry and thoso in and ar ound them should bo composition control of tuberculosis helped by seals the fight ajpatjiart lubrcuosu is betas won slnco 1000 th death rat has been cut in four how ever only by continued effort can the present rate be lowered the fact that there nre kttll more than 5500 deaths annually in canada from tuberculosis aliows wo are far short of complete victory one 1 hi port ant factor in the con trol of tuberculosa is the provision of facilities for early discovery of cases and the means for the ade quate follow up of these cases and their contacts by your contribution to the hal- ton county christmas sen1 cam- pflcn you have mndo poelble an efficient and thorough programme for case findings nnd follow up on halton county last year u mass xray survey was conducted in the 5 towns in tho county this was paid for by your donations to the chrlstmns senl sale tn all 12560 people were xrayed and 29 cases of tubeyculosrs were discovered it would have been useless to dis cover these cases if no facilities were available for following them up niid to see that their contacts were examined this has been done monthly xray clinics are held lli oakvllle and milton and the facilities of clinics in guofcph hamilton nnd toronto are also used cllncs in oakvllle and milton are excellent exam cratlvc effort needed to achieve re- sults in tuberculosis control thb hospitals make ther facilities avnllnblc at nominal cost the x- rays nre paid for by tho christmas seal committee the county health unit provides the ataff to operate the cllnlca and the on tario department of health inter prets the xrays during the comlnir summer it li planned to cover theu areas of the country where xrnys were not done last year this will involve the use of mobile clinics through out the rural arena in mass x ray surveys it has not been considered desirable to do children unless there has been hlitory of contact with tube since younger chlldrenrately show the disease this means that about g0 of the population should be xrayed in t the survey conducted last year 38 per cent of the population had cheat xrays taken which leavos about 7 000 in halton who should be xrayed during the coming summer the chrlstmns seal com mittee will agnin pay the cost of this mnss survey in the past when vou have sent your donation to the christmas seal committee you may have wondered how your money was 4eing spent the nboyjejtummary will give you your answer each dollar contributed is spent in the most efficient manner to dlscovtt cnie3 at the earliest possible mom ent and u hen these cases are found to provide facilities for thorough nnd continuing follow up of the casos nnd their contacts it is money well spent and wlil give ou a real return in the feel ing of satisfaction that jou have contributed to the health and well
