when it is pleasant to look back and also to look ahead to new op portunities and new heights to be reached but one would indeed be remiss and particu larly the editor of a weekly newspaper if in re calling the past year he did not dwell a moment on the year just ending and said a sincere thanks to all who arc associated with him in presenting from week toweek the mirror of the community always down through the years as we pause tft each year and it astounds us how manv and how long we have enjoyed these friendships one correspondent for instance has sent in his weekly letter for twentyfour years and rarelv has an issue been missed some of the staff have been associated with us well over twenty years and so we might go on recalling helpfulness and faithfulness and the more we dwetton these recollections the more appreciative we become of these loyalties and friendships that have been developed in our years in weeklv newspaper work as the yeais are added on our thank you becomes more numerous and all inclusive yes the ear ium closed was another mile stone in which we found new friendships cem enting of old friendships and enjoyment in com- muniiv advancement together for the coming year one is never sure of what is in store we wish of course that it mav hold for one and all a bountiful measure of health and happiness that the town and in dividuals mav grow and prosper collectively and scparatelv one may sav these are trying- times but looking back all years have been terttif periods and steppingstones to growth and succes- max 1049 find us all readv to ac cept the responsibilities and opportunities which it will proent and ready to play our part in making this corner of the old world a better rlace greetings individual and otherwbe every year as we review the many beautiful i greeting cords that come to our desk nnd home we make another resolution flint nevt year we will arrange and produce a card of our own which if not beautitul will be individual once i having made the resolution it has been entirely forgotten until it few weeks prior to christmas i when such a task is impossible when one is of ten working out other folks individual tastes ia i special greetings as we review this week many of the beauti ful greetings received we find ourselves making the same yearly resolution whether it will be 1 any more productive in results only will be 1 known in the christmas a year hence but the week following christmas has its delights in i reviewing the greetings and the thought that went into so many of the cards reviewed we like thai quiet week with time for review of greetings time to study the thought back of 1 them time to realize the friendships that hav- been made and endured the years backlnjjwa 1wu from th iwt ttf tit iw lr r statesman whether in his new post george drew should he called honorable or simply mr the latter desig nation is correct all this sort of thing is laid down in official orders that are summarized in the parliamentry guide lieutenantgovernors are entitled to the designation honorable for life andso are all privv councillors of canada which means all who are or have been members of the federal cabinet speakers of the commons and senate and judges of the supreme court of canada and of provincial supreme and appeal courts are called honorable while in office with the provision in their cases that on retirement they can be personalis recommended tvy the gover norgeneral for his majestys permission to re tain the title of honorable that proiion docs not apply to senators or to the speakers of the legislatures or to proincial premiers and cabinet ministers all of whom are called honorable while in office but who do nor carrv the title with them into retirement thus george drew is plain mr drew since he resigned as premier of ontario and john bracken is mr bracken despite a score of ears as premier of manitoba and other vears as leader of his majestys opposition in parliament opposition leaders as such have no mention in this table of titles george is a good name we might add but not one mr drew would like to be familiarly called now for nvw years resolutions ai th mooting
