tbubsday dbcdfbkb is uol the acton free press acton ontario paqz itvb the acton baptist sunday school christmas play pantomime the first christmas thursday evening december 30th 800 p m carol sing song offering 1 thank you i wish to thank the voters of acton for the support which they accorded me in my election to council esther taylor to the electors i wish to thank all those who supported me in the recent election i would also like to wish all the citizens of acton a merry christmas and a happy and prosperous new year j greer thanks to all those electors who supported me in the municipal election on monday december 10th my smcerest thanks ray thompson to one and all the compliments of the season letter to editor e tyler reviews towns operation to the editor atfon itretf press would you please grant ng the space for a few llntss in your papcrt i do not intend to make this a weekly serial but would like lh opportunity to state a few facia relative to the operation of town business during my tenure of office 1 have been accused of spending too much money but any person whb is aware of the make up of wiiuuillmiltl wnllr mnynr oshunoe has only one vote on any matter and that is usually a vote to break a tie in the past three years some equlpmeht has been bought all of which was sorely needed for the operation of the town the gmder was purchased for a moderate sum and i think every onirwilrabwethtsnlecenfkiulirr joyccjaurrowslondonmtvand thank you to those who supported me n the recent election sincere thanks e bilton ment has more than paid for itself in the short time wo hove had it a new dump truck wai purchas ed without which we could not service the streets and umks around town a proper vehicle was purchased for the pick up of jfnrbakc and this equipment cost 25 00 over the mle price of the old truck a snow blower was purchaied which can clear the main business section of the town in a matter of two to three hours cut tin down the expense of a front end loader and the difference in the cost of removal will pay for this equip- ment in approximately two yer i tme j a new fire pumper was purch ased which i think every ratepiyer will nrrce was sorely needed this pumper will cost the town 15 per cent of the actual purchase prce as the ffovernment pays a subsidy of 35 per cent- of the total cost if this equipment had not been purchased it was quite possible that all fire insurance rates in town would have taken a considerable jump in the next year or two i xaw fit to form an industrial committee on council this yen- and this committee has done consider able work tryinc to ret new indust ries to locate in acton i am quite sure that if industrial building had been aailable in acton n number of new industries would now be located here as late as tuesday of last week thi commt- tee uas in toronto interview n a firm and an ltsuc of major import ance to the local taxpayer would hao been forthcoming in tht earlv part of the new year this contact has been lost as the voters have seen tit to reject the members of this committee holdbacks on the sewer and re- paving contracts have still to be paid which involves approximater 20 000 00 of the ratepayers mon ey several claims by citlzes adiinst these holdbacks have ben made and with the retirement of the major portion of th inance committee b the ott rs alunble information has been lost 3 ifiht thest claims i would like to make it clear thit his is not a grudge ktur just i a f t v ficls which i think the ci- t i7c ns of acton should know ns i hat nothing but the best interests of acton and its citizens at h art i would like to n iterate that am thine i hiv e done in tht past thrtt years 1 havi bun proud xd do in the bt st m enst of the town and would not hesitate to do e iriin
