trafalgar for the past year joseph m wickson was elect ed warden for halton county at the inaugural meeting of halton county council held at the county buildings tuesday afternoon mr wickson was elected to the highest office in the county over deputy reeve ken neth macdonald georgetown by a 14 to 10 vote reeve george leslie of enqueuing township was nominated but withdrew mr macdonald told members it was his intention to stand for wardrnship observing that georgetown had not had the honor since 1035 mr wickson declared it had been 12 years since a warden had been chosen from trafalgar township he felt that due to trafalgar be- engineers confer on swimming pool acton swlmmjng pool commit tee conferred last night with messrs mcnaugton and wensnl of the aff of engineer j c kuehn kitchener regarding plans for ac ton swimming pool to havo in readiness when materials are available the arrangements wer considered for plans of the whole project with portions to be built as funds esqueslng and deputyreeve l macarthur representing oak vi lie warden wickson welcomed all members to the council introducing each of the new members in his inaugural address the new warden expressed his apprec iation at being elevated to the greatest honor in halton county he pointed out that the present industrial expansion program tak ing dhape in the southern areas o halton wus assisting materially all municipalities as well as the coun ty as a whole there will be a not iceable reaction all over the coun ty as industry is developed all this will mean more work for the county council as a whole but i believe we will bo able to handle it with your cooperation i am sure we will have a successful year he concluded following a report of the road committee and county engineer roy v smith council approved a resolution to purchase 20 acres of giavel deposit land tor a sum of 20000 the purchase will be made from j cooke mr smith explain ed to council existing gravel dep osits were gradually becoming de pleted and in order to protect the cvunt mi rects to have giavel in their own pi it would be good insurance for the county to make the purchase he further added an estimated kooooo yards of gravel were tn the area with a strong possibility cf there being a much greater quan tity with the estimated yardag and cost of ihe land it would act ually cost the county about two- andahalf cents a yard that b much cheaper than if we had to buy it commercially he aid wih the increased demands for better roads especially with the present expansion program in the south this january 13th mm dear editor every spring the people in c- ton ask about the swimming pool we too gave our donation and cant help but wonder it it ivas jusi money put down the drain i took my children to the park several times last summer the limes they could play in the wat er the dressing rooms were in such a filthy condition i forbad them to use them instead i dress ed the children in some quiet corner of the park if we the public cant look after such tmple dressing rooms im sure we dont deserve any better ones im sure a lot n acton citens vould be glad to see some of the swimming pool money peit on swings and teetertotters a iu h simple amusements for the child ren the cost would be small comp ared to what the pool would cost id the labor entailed would b mil- im sure the children would
