board last friday to hear presentation ot two gas franchise agreements one for ac ton and one for milton from the halton- natural gas co the board ruled against hearing these terms and conditions last august when it was found in georgetown that public notice requirements had not been fully carried out at the august hearing a four- hour affair georgetowns bylaw agreement was heard in full vice- chairman t h simpson who chaired the hearings held in acton last week said the board has ap proved the bylaw submitted for georgetown subject to some minor alterations at last weeks meeting held friday in the acton cbuncil cham ber legal representative for the halton natural- gas co d a s brooks tabled the notice formal ities for the acton bylaw also asked for a waiver of the public vote clause acton council he in dicated was leaving this matter to the discretion of the fuel board solicitor john evans for the un ited suburban gas co ltd brief ly questioned a matter of form he wondered why so many of the terms and conditions for the halton natural gas application were in cluded in the agreement form in- stead of the bylaw vicechairman simpson said the the board would reserve the ap plication on the vote question and addend nobody seems interested enough to oppose it referring to the reqeust for the waiver of vote by the applicant turning to the milton agreement form mr brooks readings to a bylaw giving the united suburban gas co ltd a foot in the gas franchise door here with two other companies after members heard lengthy testimonials of the hamilton companys worth from its own representatives now there are three companies who will make their bid for fuel board approval to gas rights in acton the other two are the local anthony das and oil explorations ltd and the halton natural gas co the latter company is the only one thus far to get its bylaw before the fuel board at a meeting two weeks ago a letter from the united- suburban co a subsidiary of the union gas co of canada got a cool recept ion at that iimv members who expressed partiality to continued dealings with the halton natural gas co which is reportedly looked on with favor in milton and georgetown asked the clerk to reply that acton was not inter ested in hearing from the united suburban gas co assured supply source the united suburban qas co came anyway four menj strong their solicitor j evans submitted the agreement form and delivered an extensive approbation of his company he told of the long hist ory financial responsibility wide area of service and highest public relations enjoved by his company in municipalities where it is estab- livhed he was also emphatic that it had a reliable source of gas supply mr evans revealed that the un ited suburban gis co is prepared to buy natural gas supplies from the local anthony gas and oil explorations ltd to a question from mayor tyler tie lawyer replied it uas likely ims could be served economically to the area if- a franchisr was ap proved for all three towns cer tainly he suggested the company would have to get the franchise for at least two of the towns in order to provide service withdraw hours petition t p pinckard who
