mills town ihall last week the social part at the evening took the form of a christmas party over 70 members attended even though the evening was stormy these two groups try to meet once a year jointly remembering the serious part of christmas two pleasing solos were sung by mrs bertha sdbye and nri elizabeth hewat mrs dusty lowrie read a poem by rabindranath tagore candles as she read standing beside a tall lighted christmas tree in the darkened thall candles were lighted on a nearby tables one by one representing the virtues love confidence understanding forgive ness and humility mrs evelyn barden andi mrs fred gardiner presidents of tlhe two institutes lighted the candles in the impres -tve- ceremony ilater musical chairs were en joyed particularly by some of of the older members who did not hesitate to take part in the fun mrs irene stone won her prize being an over size ennd cane there was a draw v on by mrs betty marshall the prize was a handy knitting bag the highlight of tne evening was the entrance of santa claus who was drawn dvwn the hall to the lighted tree by an odd looking reindeer santa w as delegated to give the gifts each member having brought one w ith the givers name inside santa was aided by eden crests president mrs barden who called out the numbers oh each gift santa entertained by amusing remarks to each and ev ery member as she came up for her gift mrs w earlv was the lovial santa mr- john l macdonald thanked the eden crest members for their part in the successful party and mrs walberg answered tendering the thanks of her institute to ed en mills members more than one said there should be more joint meetings the uual lunch was replaced by individual salad plates served by the lunch committee at pi decorated card tables
