visited in turn the wo- menjf sitting room the mens sitting room and the infirmary and sang several carols for each group of resi dents miss carol mcmastcr con ducted the singing although this was the first time the girls have sung in public their singing was very sweet and har monious their voices blended very- b and miss mcm has every cause to feel proud of her young charges the brownies range in age from eight to ten and the guides were of course older girls the girls had been warmly wel comed to the manor by mrs clarke and after a very fine and generous program of carols had been given they were thanked by muriel thompson upon leaving the manor the girls and their leaders presented a treat of grapes and candy to the residents all the residents appreciated the program and the treat very much religions service as had been the case at christ mas sunday the church service on new tfears day was c around the religious significance of christmas the service was in charge of rev r f snyder pastor of emmanuel baptist church mil ton mr snyder brought with him mr frank sisson the sunday school departmental superintend ent of the same church due to the fact that mr snyder was suffering from a cold mr sisson led in the singing of several christmas hymns and read the scripture lesson st luke chapter 2 verses 820 basing his thoughts on verses 10- 11 of this same portion uf sc mr snyder delivered a very ap propriate and thoughtful sermon on what was meant by the phrase good tidings of great joy he described in scholarly fashion the suffering of the jewish nation un der the roman yoke rind the deep yearning of the jewish people for a messiah who would free them from it he also explained how the pagan philosophies of the daynad failed to bring real happiness- to their followers and
