is soon to have one of the most picturesque parks in halton county located on the base line at the sixth line on trafalgar township side the park will encompass ls acres of wooded partly rolling land with a small creek running alone one side of it residents have banded together to form volunteer groups of workers to prepare the land for the project work has been going on for the past few weeks now with 20 men work ing one saturday and 34 men and boys last saturday there is no rivalry between the trafalgar and esquesing township residents over the park either the volunteers have come willingly from both sides of the fence to join in the community project and a board which will eventually be set up to govern the park will have three re presentatives from each township on it of course just a start has been gained on the park at this time there are many things to be done before the project is finished more volunteer workers with tools like axes saws and shovels are needed work will continue this saturday and the farmers among the volun teers are hoping to have the major ity of the work finished before seeding time arrives to date a number of trees along the creekbank have been felled trimmed and burned tractors bull dozers chain saws and common ordinary hand labor as well as fine community spirit have been rcspon- sible for the work so far done the property upon which the park is situated has been owned by the king family for over a century mike coxe plumbing heating eavestroughing pipe fixtures fittings of all kinds beatty pressure systems water softeners american appreciation received from some of these friends mrs a moore reported on the easter meeting of the girls group at which miss gerald ine greer mis sionary in formosa was the speaker although the weather was not favorable there was a good at tendance and everyone enjoyed miss greers message five ladies attended a meeting in acton last week where mrs zicdman of the scott mission was the guest the 70th annivers ary of this w m s to be held this fall mrs crawford took charge of the topic the christian mission in a revolutionary world assisting wcie miss j mcphail on conditions in the world mrs w vnrrsicklo spoke on british guiana and mrs elsley on formosa mrs crawford asked the opinion of the members present to the question of women being ordained as ministers of the church the topic was quite interesting the offering was lecelvcd and dedicated 19 ladies answered the roll call with the word rejoice the meeting was closed with pray er by the president a pleasant 1 i m worried said partner as he came into dinner one day last week oh and what s the matter now i was prepared for anything a su k cow dead calf contrary hens bridge washed away or a flooded stiblo so i was quite surprised at the answer i got im woi ried repeated partner be cause i havent heard the frogs yet and i cant remember n spring without them youre right come to think of it i hivcn t hoard them either not hcio amwiv so now we are wondering is the absence of frogs peculiii to this district or as it the amc elsewhere if so what is the reason yes i know it has been cold but we have had other cold springs and on sunny days we could hear the frogs could it be the songsters of the swamp have succumbed to some kind of disense i hope not wouldnt it be strange on warm summer evenings not to hear the frogs perhaps they just got tired of waiting for the spring and decid ed to trv a period of hibernation come to think of it that isnt such a bad idea wouldnt it be ni e to sleep through the bad wea ther and w ike ifp some morning to find spring definitely here but since that isn t possible we just have to do the best wo have with what wove got like the sparrows did you know the sparrows rec ently held a council and decided they couldn t wait until the shrubs were in leaf they were going to raise a family anyway so now thev are building nests among the bare br inches and that is some thing i havent scon before flowering bulbs have also dec ided lo defy the weather and are bravely forcing their growth through the soil that i was glad to see because list spring i planted a number of bulbs among the trees bortfanng a nearby field and then partner let the calves out to past ure and i was quite sure they would robbie up the green shoots and root out my bulbs but they evidently didnt as there arc shoots coming up in exactly the right places so maybe this year the calves will have daffodils and narcissi to feed on i was really anxious about those bulbs as they were more or less of an experim ent fall bulbs planted in the spring i am sure i spoke of it in this column last year about finding a basket of forgotten bulbs in the woodshed matted and grown to gether just as if they were in the ground and i separated and plant ed them and now here they are having survived pasturing calves and the cold spring speaking again of the unseason able weather it just occurred to me if wc cant get on with the spring work wc might as well prepare for the fall and i mean that quite seriously yes indeed because do you know the advance fall fair prize lists are already out includ ing that of the canadian national exhibition now is the time to look them over nnri fhcidr on ahe v half hour was lunch period classes in which we can compete during the months to come there who spoke w1 m mv canadians this work is earned out daytoday by insurance agents and inspectors in special testing laboratories and in many other ways however insurance companies cant tag or label every danger even if they could there still would be accadents because nine out of 10 accidents can be traced directly to carelessness last year this same carelessness cost the lives of 10000 canadians and caused damage of more than one bullion dollars every day the only way to combat careless ness and its toll is to be safety-oon- scious at all fames think and live 1 au canada insurance redekatiom it awj tamaf
