the nir is full of bugs of some kind things that hop fly or crawl some that do all three and i should know some kind of little black fly has nearly driven me crazy and i am the only one it bites the flics arc so small they can get through the screen netting they have tiny wings they also hop and they are almost black you wouldnt think anything so small could be as vicious the aftermath of their bites has given me restless nights for the last fortnight ext cerit the last two nights and thcri only because i have been buying and spraying insecticide with reck less extravarartce i thought if i got bitten up nueh more infection might get into the blood stream and then dear knows what might happen some folk tell me these insects are grass fleas could be as there is a hayfield right next to the house but we have never been bothered with them before however bites or no bites i have been very busy moving house until now with eleven rooms to play aroxind in i seem to have managed to spread myself and my belongings all over thc house and if there is anything that clut ters up a place like old papers books clippings and so forth i have yet to meet it so after a consultation with part ner it was decided i should take over a room upstairs it used to be bobs bedroom first it had to be cleaned and a new place found for boyhoods remaining treasures and with partners help a double bed to take down and remove to the box room and cupboards and shelves to set up in its place and then began the grand job of collecting my belongings and cart ing them upstairs in the midtdl of this things began to happen out side one man enme in to cut a field of hay at thc back of the farm another man was busy in the front field then came the haybaler and af ter him a big rig from thc depart ment of highways i never saw anything with such huge rubber wheels all four of them it was a soiltesting outfit sent in to take samples of the soil for construction purposes the men used a 12inch jjore went down about eight feet and took a sample of the soil and then filled the hole up again i i think they made four holes while this was going on i was busy with my job taking twentyfive vol umes of an encyclopaedia upstairs two volumes at a time was all i could rarry with comfort loiter i jot into trouble for doing the job myself if 1 had known it wcis go me to pour with rain so soon i would have waited for help s the storm very effectually put an end to all outside activity for the rest of the day however the job is done now and i mi settled down more or less in my new quarters but i have run up against another pro blem itntil i got used to it i wont be able to write for looking out of the window i didnt realize what a grand view i would have from up stairs the window faces north west overlooks our driveway lots of trees and green fields no 25 highway and in thc distance the mountain and of course the set ting sun what more could anyone want but i was enreful to place my typewriter desk well away from the will clow where neither birds nor scenery will distract my atten tion when i rcaly settle down to work of course this new setup has its disadvantages too the stairs for instance sometimes no sooner have i not upstairs than the door bell or the telephone rings and the phone rings five times before i can iet to it daughter says put n extension plnxuv good idea but it hat costs money andt dont frank carney 4k sons plumbing heating hardware electric phone 135 rockwooo think we have enough calls coming in to warrant the exjicnsr oul-go- ing calls i can arrange to cvcninj we share he television together it isnt even as bad as when wo had a lot of entitle then i did used to think we led separate lives with partner at the barn most of the time and i at the house but cornc to think of it there is nothing extraordinary about that a professional or businessmans work 13 usually away from home isnt it on a farm it just seerhs queer because a farmers wife is used to having her menfolk within earshot most of the time yesterday we had a quiet day until about four oclock then things began to pop first a very welcome caller then our itfrorrto family and finally bob and joy and they all wanted eggs to take home with them with eggs sell- tng at 73c they arc glad to get them at wholesale price as dee says they get better and bigger ejjgi but at a lower price
