lower the flag at the cenotaph during the last post and reveille mr coles has been handling this chore for the past six years and has never missed a parade the guard of honor end guelph sea cadet band can be seen in the background as well as members of the guelph pipe band other bands in the parade were acton citizens band acton junior pipe band and the lome scots regimental band amos mason funeral held today was leading citizen industrialist one or actons leading citizens amos mason passed away quietly at guelph genera hospital tues day morning hi leaves an en viable record of service as a torn munity leader industrialist and outstanding citizen for 40 years mr mason has been a civic and community lea der in acton his record of scr vice covers almost every organiza tion and his leadership has been directed towards every worth while community enterprise bom at ltsgar in peel county 79 years ago mr mason moved to aclon with his parents william mason and isabel switzcr when he was u from acton mr mason went to mtattmrvillc where he worked in a general store after a few years he moved to alton to work married la 1908 while living in alton he met his wife he former cordelia al gie and the two were married june 1 1908 it was in 1920 amos mason re turned to aeton with some used muchincry to open mison knitting company and his hard work and keen business mind were responsible for the success of the comptny shortly after taking up per mancnt reside nee in aeton he began his community service work and bv 1922 was leading ac ton citizens band his ability and interest soon developed a lopnotch organization impressive service his service to the eummuml was impressive and up until the time of his death he was active in assisting worthwhile projects he took a keen interest in the rotarv club and the crippled children s campaign he was the charier preside nl mr mason served on ihe publte sehool board ind luler on muniei pal council as councillor then reeve warden of haiton county and acton s first mayor during his 14 years of municipal work serving on the first board of the aeton ymca he was later president of that board other activities included leading the united church choir serving as president of the acton board of trade and membership in walker lodge a f and a m during the war years he headed the acton and vicinity war ser vice league from 194045 he led
