win home i if rav boys play as well as they did in hcsieler last friday well lake milton in the first round said novice coach barry inscoe we tied the game up in the last six seconds with jhe goalkeeper off for an extra forward the novices start their best of three series in milton next monday returning here wednesday pee wee coach gord flicker and manager bill morrison felt they should have come out belter than a lie in their first playoff with milton monday but thev brought home a split alter an overtime session bantam coach harold townsley and maiiifger herb dodds engineered an upset when the acton club took oraigevllle in the first gam of their bestoflhrec in the duffcrin centre all eyes will be on the midgets when they open the play offs against hespeler here on friday theyve been the most suc cessful acton team in the tricounty finishing up the schedule whitewashing orangeville and preston when the midgets feel like playing hockey theres few clubs in the province if the acton kids eliminate hespeler then theyll meet their old nemesis milton there was a move afoot to have the milton teams elevated into a minor since the town is well past the 6000 irnark but the leader and manager dave hunter were disappointed their club lost a 40 decision to milton in the playoff opener monday but the acton team has been having its troubles since the season opened the lions club agreed to sppnsor them when 18 boys signified they wanted to play hockey for the game monday coach leader had eight men to manipulate hardly enough for a practice let alone a playoff game nevertheless the acton team made a good impression rgive me that team and another line said- milton manager bill rowney and ill bring home a championship two weeks ago the regular goalkeeper moved out of town arid steve gov took his place steve was edged 32 by orangeville in his first net appearance the lions had only one line plus a willi four lxgulars missing from the lineup actim tanners more mckfnzie improved play well ian hes man on the bench so most of the club played almost the entire game the stlffer playoff pace tired the acton club monday but they had more than their share of play with a little luck they might have tied the series last night their determination to carry on in spite of a lack of numbers reflects the teams deter mination but both the coach and manager are asking whats wrong with boys of juvenile age in town dont they want to play hockey it beat bits the tanners were due to play in durham sunday but snow cancelled the game all ihe snow was in this area however so durham officials checked with police to see if there was that much snow down here thcy thought the tanners were trying to squirm out of playing since they had only three or four inches of the white eliminated by an other team the novices pee wees and juveniles drew milton as their opponents in the first round the bantams drew orangeville as their antagonists in the first round while the midgets most successful of the acton clubs will face hespeler in another two out of three friday for midgets first game for the midget club will be in acton friday night at 7 pm prior to the intermediate hockey game the contest was scheduled at this spot to draw at tention to minor hockey week fans will have a chance to see both games if they wish much attention will be focus ed on the acton midget entry in the playoffs they wound up ahead of georgetown preston orangeville and hespeler in the group and they stand a good chance of taking the group crown theyre coached by herb jobb and ed owen and townsley had to be assisted from the ice when he was hurt in the third period but he was able to rejoin the club before the chapter ended bob dobbie back in the fer gus lineup made a big improve ment
