although he had been in failing health snice jan uary his last illness was brief the wellliked harness maker had lived in acton for over so years- he was born august 5 1874 at woodvale but moved to acton before the turn of the century he married the former minnie statham in 1899 they had one daughter lucy mrs harvey walters with whom he had been making his home jhfe worked at storey glove shop and the tannery for a while many years ago he started his trade in 1910 in alston when horses dominat- ed the roads he had learned harness making in port huron michigan before setting up shop here he moved his shop three or four times but he was always in the same main area of the town he first located in a small building at the rear of the dominion hotel in 1938 he decided to give up business in a big way but still kept a small shop at the back of his home with his daughter and soninlaw later in 1963 he officially retired ias harness makers became more difficult to find customers would come from farther away to seek his services always bright and cheerful in his shop mr edwards will long be re membered by those who have lived here for many years at the time he was active in business many of his custom ers were children who toted toy gun belts with loose straps or buckles that required mending they were never turned down and never charged imr edwards was fond of children and always had a kind word for them many of these youngsters now adults will re call the kind acts performed for them by the harness maker he was an ambassador of goodwim andvalways bore a smile on his face although there were times when many would scowl his store was always a meeting place for friends and many a conversation was car ried on sitting around the stove or with patrons perched on the counter top
