township council this year is now gaining attention in esquesing wilf fortowsky who lives on 25 highway just south of speyside started a campaign on friday which will eventually lead to a petition con demning blasts of the magni tude that shake the floors of homes on friday saturday andsun- day mr fortowsky visited more than 125 homes on the fringe areas of esquesing township telling of his plan in a leaflet left at each home it was stated in the near future a petition will be circulated demanding an investigation into the blast ing so far he said only one woman seemed to be against his proposals many offered to help him and he said a meeting would be called very soonto- decide to whom the petition would be sent he described the esquesing township council as being neg ligent in this matter they have never undertaken to determine what possible damage will re sult from continued blasting or what the future holds he said can we look forward to being shaken by blasts several times a week or perhaps even several times a day he continued they council have never bothered to undertake a town ship investigation to protect the home owners they have in the past taken the word of the quar ry companies that all is well certainly we can expect these companies to present a picture advantageous to themselves an other question to which the council has no answer is how long the escarpment can stand the continued bombardment of the dufferin quarry blasts be fore crumbling into an unsight- scrvancc of canadas centen nial they will have white let tering and numbering on a blue background and will carry the lettering 19 ontario 67 on the top and 19 confederation 67 on the bottom the licence num bers will be separated by a crown instead of a dot as in previous years expiry date for present plates and the final day for gcting 1967 plates will be tuesday february 28 mr haskct said there definitely would be no ex tension beyond this date ly heap of rubble the protec tion of this natural beauty is another responsibility that has been neglectec he said during us tour of the town ship mr fortowsky learned ratepayers are also concerned with the speed of trucks along five sideroad they definitely believe there should be a 3d mile speed limit rather than the present50 mile limit the trucks are a real menace he continued he is determined that some thing will be accomplished along this line i dont mind spend ing a couple of years on this thing people want something done and it certainly looks like theyre going to help me he concluded on sunday mr fortowsky visited with esquesing residents who live in the acton area and learned their homes were af fected by blasts from a lime stone quarry he was told a pet ition had been taken up several years- ago acton council had acted on it and did succeed in having the blasts reduced in size at least acton council worked- on it he said sincere thanks and appreciation v for acclamation os deputyreeve of esquesing
