recently mrs milne opened the fri day program with a personal poem on rockwood 18671967 and an encore poem on cana da keith black favored with a solo followed by a tap dance number with penny jackson and david cox claims as one or nor boys stir- red happy memories with- his western songs acco himself on the guitar being eighty4hree years young did not stop roy hind- ley from thrilling the audience with hir reading the crema tion of sam mcgee seeing such a perfect memory was an inspiration to everyone to prose gospel songswere happy instead of long faced laverne pharoah on the elec tric guitar syd durose with his accordion and murray tay lor on the violin played and sang for the audience carl harris followed with old time selections on the viola who doesnt thrill to the old harry lauder songs this is even more true when sung by onenearing the four score years as is t d mccutcheon who looked very dapper with his lam oshanter plaid vest and crooked cane mrs grace mcenery of ballinafad a former everton resident fav ored with an oldtime read ing and short encore mrs ruth musselle present ed a most interesting and laughproducing fashion show with chic models picked from our male rockwoodites sport ing womens clothing who knowssomeonemaycopy the white flannelette wedding gown worn so regally by our local postmaster a beautiful sacred solo great is thy faithfullness sung by mrs ron millson brought the program to a close our reeve warden camer on lush congratulated every- onc for the fine performance and thanked mrs milne and the committee mr lush also presented theprizes best authentic costumed perform ed was mrs bonner who re ceived a lovely picture of the rockwood academy donated by yosef drenters for the best oldtime number a pic ture of the mill donated by don hilts was presented to roy hindley grant mcrafc took the prize for the best costume jn the fashion show a more than- capacity crowd was again present for satur day evening with mrs milne again opening chance to view a rather un usual and noisy mock wett ding complete with a most un- cooperntlve bridegroom after a short intermission mayor les duby of acton whom rockwood proudly duvm cox again sho their tap dance skill miss gladys humi in her lovclv costume of the 1600s favored with two solos and t d mccutcheon generously fill ed in for an absent perform er with his great harry lauder songs margaret crabtree pre sented twq piano solos every one enioved the hillbillies and their band number by the rockwood bov scouts follow ed bv carl harris on the viola the jollflefe pasmore guild and dunbar families were a hit in their smart costumes singing and playing of the blessings of canada and bring ing out some of its tribula- tions following intermission ac tons mayor duby favored with his western songs the dancing eight a square dance group of school children train ed by al jackson who did the calling presented a most en joyable performance and keith black again sang his old time numbers donna hilts gave a fine exhibition of the modem teenage dance routine campbell mcarthur also a former rockwood resident was as always fully enjoyed as he favored with two select ions accompanied by mrs mc arthur then a return performance of the popular fashipnjhow with a few added models mrs c meredith played back ground music as ruth mus selle described the smart fashions looking like something out of a picture in long dress and poke bonnet linda cox sang the lovely sacred solo how great thou art accompanied by her brother david warden c lush sincerely thanked everyone and present ed mrs milne with a rhine- stone maple leaf pin in ap preciation of her work mrs f taylor of the cen tennial committee presented centennial pins to the school children performers the mon ey for these was donated by mrs findtey and b hill miss g hanna received the prize for best period costume mrs musselle placed second george day took the fashion show prize with mrs milne and t d mccutcheon award ed best performance prizes the scouts also received re cognition other prize money was received from messrs dunbar and sawyer the singing of o canada conclude iwo most enjoyable evenings refreshments were served to the performers and several others present at the conclu sion of both evenings one big disappointment was the absence of john rock wood of aspersjfat who was more than in 1966 the captain for rockwood north was mrs il smith with helpers mrs r millson mrs m coulson mrs j gooyers and mrs a webster the other rockwood captain was mrs ray death helping her were marshall gave a very inspiring talk on teenagers and the church she said that people do not recognize the good teenagers but rather the bad the church should find more places for them to get involv ed in church work teenagers need the church to keep them through this trying period in their lives the congregation and the minister expressed their ap preciation to the young people in the excellent way the con ducted the service and are looking forward to a time when they will take it again the womens institute cen tennial committee met at mrs drysdales home on wednes day afternoon to further plans tar their next euchre and pen ny sale on saturday febru ary 18 also their antique fes tival to be hod in eden mills community half easter week march 29 to give the school children a chance to see the display little lorna mclean is pro gressing favorably after sur gery in toronto the world day at prayer was observed friday evening in eden mills united church with the women of the pres byterian church taking part in charge were mrs h james of the united church and mrs h gilbcrtson of the presb- terian church those taking part in the service were mrs e millson mrs r roy and mrs w gitbertson a in us now and we shall then reign with him in that king dom that shall know no end there was averv good at tendance at this special meet ing and nursery keepers were mrs walter swanston and mrs robert johnston the or ganist for the afternoon was mrs j freeman rockwood the january meeting of unit two rockwood united church women was held recently at the home of mrs stanley harris mrs p mcgilvray presided in the ab sence of the unit leader miss g hanna the opening poem the dreamers prayer was followed by a hymn and the lords prayer in unison the roll call was answered with the paying of member ship fees followed by the minutes of the last meeting and the treasurers report which were read and approv ed during the business session it was decided to send mrs f eaton of acton a sum of money to help send parcels to india thank you notes for christmas parcels were read by the secretary mrs hill re- minded the members of the world day of prayer to be held this year in rockwood presby terian church mrs o dnjber will represent the unit in this service mrs hill also stated the next ucw general meet ing would be held march 15 mrs mcgilvray told the members that the annual meeting of the guelph presby- faywtrfjbehfclditjtmuyl united church gueiph on february- 7 mrs a gardner reminded that the rockwood united church was responsible for a special centennial service dur ing the month of october 1967 mr 0trijber who is compiling a history of the rockwood church asked for cooperation of the members for any information they might have in this matter the unit members are working on a cook book which is nearing completibn the program began- with a poem bymrs mcgilvray god in nature and a hymn the scripture lesson was taken by mrs lloyd marsden from st mark 12mrs ross gordon read an article on being a good neighbor and on prayer the poem dont quit was given bv mrs c meek mrs mcgilvray gave a most interesting and informative ac count of the study book part one the church grows in canada by d wilson this included the account of the beginning of different denom inations most of the early churches put the emphasis on education said mrs mcgil vray as a result of this many of our colleges and universities were established a hymn and the benediction closed the meeting after which a bible quiz was con ducted by the leader during the social time a lovely lunch was served by the
