stand correct ed on your statement the mat ter could have been left in the hand of the superintendent please be advised mr mayor that we the taxpayers of the glenlea subdivision have re ceived many promises of ac tion from committee chair- men councillors and many others but with no results councillor tyler did every one a favor as this dump situ ation has grown so bad that action will have to be taken promptly or it may have to become a public health prob lem and referred to a higher power than acton town coun cil for the past three months this dump has been burning 24 hours a day seven days a week most ofrour children dont even know the taste of clean sweet fresh air as we never receive any except from everyone elses garbage we strongly suggest that you folks who make our laws spend some time in this area appraising the situation first hand or are you all afraid of getting lung infection seeing as how last year our town council saw fit without asking the taxpayer to vote the council chambers recently for their regular february meet- ig with all members present and reeve lush presiding fol lowing the reading of the min utes of the last regular meet ing and special meetings sev eral items of correspondence were readand discussed b winter of the wellington county assessment depart ment discussed with council proposed changes in the poll ing subdivision boundaries that would enable the assessor to more clearly define boun dary lines after discussion and minor changes the coun cil instructed the clerk to have a byjaw prepared for the next regular council meeting desig nating the polling divisions and boundaries for eramosa township as recommended by the wellington county assess ment department b htndtcy and r landonl presented a petition to council showing the majority of the ratepayers in the centre wel lington high school district wanted to join the guelph su burban high school district as a jesult a i motion was pass ed by council to recommend to the wellington county council the inclusion of the whole of the township of era mosa in the guelph suburban high school area council appointed the fol lowing as their representatives on the guelph surburban plan ning board lloyd marsden for 1967 replacing g cox who resigned john benham for 1967 and 1968 cameron lush for 1967 three land severances were recommended by council to the minister of municipal af fairs for approval it was mov ed that council appoint robert darou to the eramosa plan ning board for the years 1967 1968 and 1969 and that a grant of 30 be made to the welling ton soil and crop improve ment association an item brought to councils attention was the large pile of earth along the side of the road at the third line bridge and a request that it be level led this coming year coun cil promised that it would be given consideration in this years road program applications for the position of dog controller would be left in abeyance until the next meeting the clerk was in cheeses would greet the nos trils and so the women who pion eered in this great land of ours helped pave the way to the life we now enjoy and so often take for granted mrs drisdale closed with the with holman con struction awarded the gravel contract for 10000 cubic yards more or less at a price of 92 cents per cubic yard delivered subject to the approval of the department of highways the local club to mark senior citizens week the golden age club had a fair attendance on thursday night considering the ley con ditions prevailing senior citizens week in oh tarlo will be from june 18 to 24 and an effort will be made to bring a general awareness of the older people in the com munity to the general public according to the latest census there are 502 persons living in acton over the age of 60 years and a great many should be interested in any special events planned it was suggested an open air church service be held in the park it was decided to hold a bake tale and afternoon tea during the week and invite the public a petition form from the wo men against soaring prices wasps was circulated for signatures all are aware of the reports of increased pro fits of major chain stores and processors and of the rising prices which cut the value of the purchasing dollar to an alarming degree there is enough proof that prices can and must be reduced to en able canadians especially pen sioners to live without get ting into burdensome debts excessive prices can under mine the health and welfare and are creating a deepening crisis which must be challeng- ed mrs evans
