reported mrs bit- si the idea conceived in b minds of a few people in the snrmg of 166 has devel oped from one of limited scope involving the womens organis ations of the town of acton to one of variety and ambition embracing a much wider rep resentation of organisations the oniaauti began to funo- li as a e th in november of 1966 after vol unteers had been gathered for the suggested services an im mediate need was seen for dothing depot and this was es- tabuthed under the capable hands of the legion ladies at the town hall some of the services such as transport end hie clothing depot have been in fairly reg ular use others have been used sporadically it is too early really to assess the use which will be made of these services as it win take a while for the public to be aware complete request a re placement delegate from the wj and acton welfare auth orities because of mrs fryers resignation due to ill health reports from the various co ordinators were tabled mrs m johnstone clothing depot considerable activity clothing supply adequate in structions were requested re garding the storage of the bet ter articles of winter wear it was decided that because the group has plenty of space it would be wise to save these articles a request for servkable spring and summer clothing is now being made and maternity and layette wear are always required it was decided to ask the golden age club who provided the present shelving an emergency layette and an offer of knitting bert hinton for flannelette and dills pub lishing for paper donated a motion was passed that delegates request their organiz ations to allocate a small amount of money to the coun cil the finances at present consist of the remains of a pri vate donation and despite all possible frugality there are some unavoidable expenses a icipally provided a monthly saving would accrue plus ad ditional savings considered the removal of parent to earn a living and older children from the welfare rolls this has been found to be so in several municipalities where day care was esabllsh- ed it is expected that priv ately financed children will form the larger part of the en rollment ah municipal funds contrib uted to day care would be largely returned from the pro vince the exact return prob ably to 80 per cent depends upon pending legislation al though the monthly budget would not be small the other wise unobtainable provincial funds coming into acton would toe considerable actonsreputationa8apro- gresslve community would of course be enhanced with the establishment of day care the amount of indoor and outdoor equipment seems for midable municipal funds used for this also largely recover able but almost all of it could be made by local volunteers with little trouble or expense if these vyere shared by a niim- ber of donors detailed illus trated instructions are avail- able a motion was made to pro ceed with the necessary steps to establish the day care cen tre it is felt that more infor mation and perhaps- legal ad vice is necessary before muni cipal authorities are approach ed the acton freo press wednesday march t 1967 7 i 1 1 1 j 1 f jcsslsmbiaaea slanaaas
