thusiasts have hung up the skates the curlers will soon cache their brooms and the skiers are planning their last big ski weekend for the coming easter holiday its about time for the end of the season hockey tourna ments to begin and one of the most interesting tournaments in the area is- the ninth annual tricounty juvenile hockey tournament played in the recently renovated milton arena the tournament which is now in progress started last saturday march 18 and carries on until march 25 acton lions juvenile team along with- 34 other teams from virtually all of southern ontario arrd one from south of the border a detroit b team have been competing for the top spot in this tournament and are playing some very top notch games for anyone interested in going down to watch the tournament was founded in 1959 to assist the families affected by the listowel arena tragedy at first the tournament was a twoday affair but for the past three years it has stretched from the saturday preceding good friday until the day before easter toronto maple leaf star ron ellis is a top ranking gradu ate of the tournament and who knows maybe actons team has something to offer acton novice adstar team is preparing for its participa tion in the brampton lions club eighth annual international novice hockey week held in the brampton memorial arena from march 24 to april 1 boasting to be the biggest novice hockey tournament in the world the tournament will host over 1000 pint sized puckstcrs playing in over 100 playoff games actons team will compete in the d series for communi ties up to 4500 which includes elora exeter delhi woodbridge harriston and walkerton just to mention a few sdh another team from acton that being the bantam all- stars will display their form at the international bantam hoc- key tournament held in georgetown and hosted by the george town kinsmen club the official opening for the tourney is to be held t night march 23 and carry on through week long schedule of fun and excitement for all attending the eighteenth- annual goderich lions young canada week hockey tournament opens in goderich ontario on thurs day march 23 and runs through to april i the biggest little hockey tournament in the world draws pee wee teams from newfoundland to california acton doesnt have any entries in the tourney this year but the word is that acton may be playing host to its own pee wee tournament next year through the sponsorship of a local organization and plans have already been put into action it while on the subject of word from the grape vine talk has it that acton may come up with a junior c team for next year this is great this is simply wonderful 1 but lets not flyjff the handle there are two sides to every story and this is no exception first of all a team of this calibre would require a great deal of care coach manager and financewise more so i would say than the intermediate team which hat been in the limelight for the last six years another query into the topic would be the acquisition of an all acton team or a team made up more or less of a reasonable number of acton players which the oha junior c division specifies acton does have a limited number of players which would comply to regulations and the competition but do they have enough these arc just a few obvious points i am trying to bring out and if they appear to discourage the idea to the point on forgetting it altogether they are not meant to because the innovation of a junior c team could do a great deal of goodfe for acton hockey the baseball season is beginning to shape up even though the snow still lies deep on the frozen ground murray hood third vicepresident of the halton county baseball association reports a meeting has been called for wednesday april 5 to organize leagues and schedule dares for the minor teams any association currently there are four which hasnt paid its share of the 1966 umpires fees will not be allowed to enter teams in the halton leagues mr
