hornby hills- burg and alton church to enjoy the paintings carvings and symbolism of the various statues and images the greek church emphas ized paintings the churches were literally sanctuaries of refuge from barbaric invaders they cared for the widows and orphans 50000 peasants died in one plague in one italian province while in britain in the sev enth century half the popu lation perished in a plague there was no danger of the congregation going to sleep as there were no pews and no heat communion was sel dom administered but public confession was frequent without the church would have no history we eightytwo of our teenagers set out on this test of endur ance and stamina to make their contribution to the can cer fund and to create for all actonians the image of our stu dents as dedicated publicspir ited young citizens anybody who like myself drove out along the march- route to encourage and if nec essary assist the marchers fek admiration and respect for these young people who in spite of inclement weather soreness and exhaustion kept up their spirits while strug- gling on mile after weary mile 1 some of them on their feet for 24 hcur having started out from toronto city hall although it was simply be yond the physical ability of many of these marchers and some had to admit defeat short of their goal 26 completed the march and thus accomplished their aim this feat alone should con vince those selfrighteous citi zens and councillors who out of prejudice put obstacles in their way by denying them the use of local facilities for their teendances that in spite of their to us adults incompre hensible idiosyncrasies our youngj generation is made of the right stuff and deserve our trust they have shown that teen dances need not be rowdy af fairs and have proved that their way of arranging these events with properly organized security measures is more ef fective and acceptable than the former high school dances sup ervised by disapproving chap- erones in conclusion i would like to appeal to everybody concerned to show confidence in our young people and appreciation of their splendid efforts by giv ing them our wholehearted support and unreserved
