tidnal expenses and reduce- ex- pfjccs was tables in the house cossivc profits ofcwnmons on april 3rw i thought my constituents would be interested to know the conclusions of this com mittee and in this weeks col umn i will deal with the con clusions of the drug commit tee which are as follows 1 that the price of drugs in canada is at least higher than it need be 2 that no significant change has taken place in the drugcost structure since the recommendations of the hall commission which were prim arily based on the recommen dations of the restrictive trade practices commission 3 that there exists no single method nor simple ap proach which can be taken to reduce the price of drugs to the consumer and it is there fore necessary to present a ser ies of recommendations to ef fect this purpose 4 that since canadians are paying a significant portion of the cost of international phar maceutical research more of this research should be done in canada bv the pharmaceutical industry 5 that the medical profes sion is responsible or the pio- scrlbinc of mot drugs iml loi these committee letommentli- tions o be fullv ellcctuc the mednal profession must ho lul h assured ot the safet ol all drugs b the food anil di ii directorate 6 that the implementation of the recommendations onui county council briefs at the april meeting of hal ton count v council a committee was named to discuss tree planting on countv roads in general and trafalgar road formerk se- enth line in oakville in par ticular mayor mclean ander son of oakville has protested the countys destruction of trees along the travelling costs members also approved buying a projector at 10630 for the health unit 47 that the implementation of the recommendations could alter in some respects the form ol the drug industry as it exists today removing inefficiencies in the industry and increasing competition 8 that in anticipation of national and provincial welfare programmes or the further de velopment of other forms of health services it is of para mount importance that legis lation be introduced at the ear liest practical date to imple ment the recommendations of this committee in mv next column i will deal with the recommenda tions to parliament of this committee serious problems have devel oped quite a few patients are being moved from the cen tennial manor and their beds are being taken by new pat ients despite the many delays it looks as though the impressive building named in honor of the martin family of milton will be well worth the wait the opinions of residents and staff members have had sig nificant influence on the de sign of the building bright colors which domin ate throughout and the audio visual communications system from rooms to the nurses sta tion are unusual in buildings of this type a staff of about 75 is requir ed to look after the buildings mr allen explained there arent as many residents in the building but more staff will be required because many are bedcare patients mr allen expressed apprec iation for the patience shown by the people who have had to wait for long periods for the completion of the building i found most of the people very cooperative and under
