the spring woods staff photo music of church year heard again on sunday the music of the church year was presented by choirs and organ at a special service at the united church on sun- da evening organist and choir leader dr george el liott arranged the program and repeated some of the an- final repor recreation director makes iecommeadathns to board at his last meeting with the recreation and parks board last thursday evening recrea tion director howard pearce presented his final report un usually long it included a full resume of current programs and recommendations mime ographed copies were given to each board member i feel that there is enough program to recreate the citi rens of acton up to the age of 21 if what is now established continues namely playgrounds roller skating movies and teen dances he said however i feci that there is a great lack of adult recrea lion in our facility i think the only way of fulfilling this need is through special events we should not wait for svrvne clubs and community groups to organize them hut do it our selves events such as coun trv and western shows wrest ling dances etc should keen this facility active all year round in the future it will be very difficult to employ a certified recreation director if the ioh remain a dual role i feel acton is readv for both with the recreation director able to use the arena as a facility for his organized programs in stead of being responsible for the maintenance and upkvep of the building if you feel that vton is not ready for a recreation dir ector and an arena manager then employ the latter only but dont expect him to be t program organizer a liaison with community groups a trainer for program staff etc and still manage a facility as big and active as this one i also recommend the fol lowing that a master long range plan for facility devel opment be organized that the front of the building be changed to include better of fice facilities and upstairs washrooms that a complete reorgamzation of rental fees be introduced that a land acquisition pohcy be found that more equipment be pur chased to aid park mainten ance namely mowers a rear- end blade and a two wheeled trailer he reported in detail on the roller skating program a pleasant surprise minor base ball quite capable of oper ating on its own movies we should supplv more pro grams like this he is leaving the summer
