sented a gold key on a gleam ing wooden plaque council deserves credit for selecting a site where we couldnt go far wrong declar ed the architect it is a pleas ure to see an event that marks a milestone he recalled how he enjoyed working with the ibrary board and the many hours of work which the erec tion of the building had entail ed sheets with a statement of dedication were distributed throughout the crowd along with nrinted programs by uni formed cubs and scouts rev a h mckcnzie read five specially prepared state ments of dedication with the entire crowd speaking together the words of response varia tions upon we dedicate this library he concluded in the confi dent conviction that by means of careful and intelligent use of the researches and the ac cumulated wisdom of the ages the general usefulness creativ ity and cultural development of the forthcoming generations will be sustained and stimulat ed to which the asscmbh re plied together we dedicate this building and its contents together comprising the ac ton public library the chairman of the south central regional library sys tem clark w johnson explain ed briefly the purpose of the new system which covers the counties ot halton brafht and wentworth he congratulated all the people of acton and added an extra word of praise as a bandsman himself for the excellence of the band member of parliament dr harry harlev said while we cant always count on the weather being as beautiful as it was the day of the dedica tion we can always count on the attractiveness of the set ting of the new library a permanent were away mrs laura dittrich kept the sta tionery store mr and mrs doug mason and mr and mrs wilf mo eachern are attending the on tario hydro convention at cornwall this week mr and mrs d hargrave and danny of toronto visited in town and attended the of ficial openings of the library and hydro buildings mr and mrs keith main- prize and mr and mrs jack frank visited with dr and mrs roy galbraith milverton on saturday sauntered through the various rooms of the 75000 library and enjoyed a fruit drink and doughnuts the junior librarians served the refreshments from the basement servery and all the librarians were there to wel come the visitors mrs wat son miss esther taylor miss madge chapman mrs george williams and the latest addi tion to the staff mrs bob dnnkwalter an the horary board mem bers took part in the program mikin a an- nouncements chairman george lee fred new ted pratt rev r mcmurray sec retary doug copeland and ma jor duby actons first librarian mrs r m mcdonald was seated with those taking part in the program in a position of honor there were tinted rose and white carnation corsages for librarians and special guests and large baskets of flowers with cards of congratulations made bright spots of color in the library mr howard donald mount forest has returned home af ter spending a few days with mr and mrs j frank and other friends barber joe hurst is a pati ent in guelph general hospi tal and harry mainprize who retired from the same shop is filling in for him mr and mrs frank brown ing of toronto spent the week- end with mrs g a dills and mrs a b lyon of ulster pa arrived tuesday for a visit miss carol swackhamer has completed her studies at the lakeshore teachers college and will be teaching at spey- side school she is presently having a weeks orientation mr and mrs gordon rals ton and mr and mrs murray harrison and kevin were guests at the first baptist church centennial church membership reunion in god- erich last weekend mr and mrs e pratt were hosts to a gathering of the bank of montreal staff and presented anne marie lam bert with a beautiful floor polisher miss lambert is be ing married saturday miss susan radford who has graduated from lakeshore teachers college reft monday on the canadian to work at chateau lake louise for the summer she will be teaching grade three at the m z ben nett school in september miss linda braida after completing her studies at the lakeshore teachers college is working at the switchboard at beardmore and co for the summer she will be teaching in acton probably at the ro bert little school mrs j pfaff the former jo- ann force is home visiting with her parents mr and mrs h r force her husband is stationed with the rcaf at gimli manitoba and is pres ently taking a special course mrs harry norton and her daughter nancy have returned home for a visit mrs norton flew from brega libya for nancys graduation from her school in rome and the two arrived in acton on tuesday mrs c nelles regent of the lakeside chapter of the iode attended the annual meeting of the iode in ottawa there were about 800 delegates to the meeting which began on saturday friends were indeed sorry to learn that after helping pre pare the hydro building for its official opening meter reader newton hurst was taken ill early saturday morning he is a patient in guelph general hospital mr and mrs roy carpenter of england have been visiting mr and mrs jack carpenter here and seeing something of canada they saw niagara falls and expo and went camping in northern ontario they returned home last sat urday by plane roy and jack carpenter are brothers the first joint annual meet ing of the canadian museums association and the american association of museums was held in toronto last week with a large attendance of about 1800 halton county museum curator major h j newman attended the entire convention at the king ed ward hotel visitors at the home of john and may frank rj 4 acton were mrs fred stewart an aunt from lasalle quebec and mrs jack doughty a cousin of guelph mr doughty has just returned from expo bringing mrs stewart with her it is her first visit to acton in 16 years and she
