development in many parts of the world is wa ter the very basis for much of ontarios present prominence in the canadian scene we have been blessed with one of the greatest supplies of good clean water in the world one so bountiful that many of us take it for granted look at a map of the pro vince the great lakes and their connecting waterways the st lawrence the ottawa and countless thousands of in land lakes and rivers all add up to more than enough to era sure even the most optimistic ally expected needs of the pro vince foreign industrialists recognize the value of such water supplies and many are looking to ontario because of it in planning future expansion perhaps then it is time that we assure ourselves of its best possible uses not for ourselves but for future generations if we do so we can immediately see- mistakes which have been made and on looking more closely can see where these mistakes are now limiting in dustrial and agricultural devel opment in fact where they are actually retarding the growth of some parts of our large com munities those of us who live in the intensely farmed and indus trialized parts of southern on tario know this only too well the task here is now one of correction through costly polu- tion control measures and the rehabilitation ot entire water sheds it plenty ot good clean water is necessary tor our fu ture development then we should now needed in much of southern ontario the job then seems to fall into two main phases first cor rection or pollution abatement to make immediate use of our present waters while we under take the longterm watershed quantity of the supply and sec ondly the proper management of watersheds which now af ford plenty of usable water everyone has a stake in the waters of this province it is up to each of us to see that it is handled carefully wellington county council has given the okay to a three day deer season in that county during the first part of nov ember provided the sur rounding too thick and over populate their range depart ment of lands and forests sur veys indicate some areas have a population exceeding 15 deer per square mile and the de partment is anxious to have a deer strongly rebid spades without support surely a trump lead would not hurt west led the spade six and declarer won in his hand de clarer is faced with several lo sers sometimes its easier to count losers than winners he must lose a heart perhaps two clubs and two diamonds however diamonds can be ruffed in dummy once a dia mond is ruffed declarer must reenter his hand in order to ruff a second diamond ynfor- tuntely for declarer he has no sure reentry instead declarer led a heart hoping that west would have the ace west played the jack dummy the king and east won with the ace east returned his last trump now all declar er could get was one diamond ruff declarer won the spade played the diamond ace and r ruffed a diamond he return ed to his hand with a heart ruff and led out all his
