redand the acton school had 26 in the top category the scheme was a centennial project of the depart ment of education events were run off in may and june while the skating events were held during easter vacation three standards were set for each age to get a gold standing a pupil had to equal or better the top standard to get silver he or she had to equal or better the second stand ard to get bronze he or she had to equal or better the third standard to get red be didnt reach the third standard pupils competed according to age there were six events in which to compete three compul sory and three optional the compulsory events were standing broad jump 300 yard run and situps the optional events were skating swimming and cross country run to qualify a pupil had to com pete in the three
