the helton fire prevention bureaus annual poster competition acton fire chief mick holmes made the presentations at the wintry wentker 19 accidents schools with the students teacher on the left roberts peda gogue is robert mcgregor and cindys grade five teacher is ed leatherland principals gary dawkins and elmer smith respectively of the two schools were also present staff photo a banquet canadian aver age in milk production for all breeds the 78 herds of hoi- steins enrolled on record of per formance with an average num ber of 26 records had an aver age bca at 120 for milk and 123 for countries throughout the world the production has continued to increase each year with better breeding and management consideration on the amalg amation of the halton and peel boards of health drew little en thusiasm from members of hal ton county council recently when they received a report on discussions halton board chairman a ledwith told members costs would increase sigmficanuy if amalgamation did not take place since the province was altering the grant structure to encourage amalgamation he observed that all ontario health units seemed perplexed with the proposal and only one or two would meet the amalgamation deadline of jan 1 1968 reeve h hinlon acton urged the county to be very cautious he suggested halton consider forming a region by itself with out merging with peel because of the current rate of growth we have good grounds to make halton a region it will be too big with peel and halton in one region he argued warden coulter pointed out the province has suggested the size of an economic unit would have a population of 100000 to 150000 halton is weu over that with the population in crease it would be quite a just ifiable unit the warden also wonderedwhy the luncheon of the klwanis club of the kingsway toronto on mon day december 4 this award is given each year in recognition of top standing in 4h agricul tural and homemaking clubs in halton county members are allowed to win this award only once this years 4h agricultural club winners were cathy las- by mary mcgee ken mcnabb sandy bennett mary anderson david austin laura tryssenaar norman anderson billy stokes rosemary booth norman mill er and murray mccaig and from the homemaking clubs stella cgorman and betty anne brown the kiwanians also invited bill lasby of rockwood tins years winner of the queens guineas class at the royal wint er fair the two top awards available to 4h members are the je whitelock trophy and the claude bain trophy the winners of these trophies elizabeth banquet room of the fire hall warden coulter and mr alexander of the fmq distributed the stu dents awards centennial bntt by geoff taylor past and present junior farm ers and friends danced to the music of mcdougalls orchestra from alton at the halton junior farmer centennial ball held in the agricultural hall friday december 1 i prizes were awarded for first and second place in the centen nial county was fire prevention in the home both winners posters win also he entered in an allontario competition later this year the provincial contest is sponsored by the ontario association of fire
