a timely statement of its philos pliy for inclusion in this weeks back to school issue a well known ontario educator recently stated after all has been said and done in education there has been much more laid than done new equipment educational television and new buildings and facilities facilitate the learning process and allow for increased efficiency the introduction of new ideas and changing educational philosophy on the part of school boards and administrators may also facilitate the learning process education however is the result of a mysterious exchange which takes place between the teacher and the student the teacher is the only true educator in the schools of today the remainder of the people concerned with education are involved in aiding the teacher in the achievement of his objective this objective is the education of our youth the most concise statement of a schools philosophy would be to tram students to solve their own problems and to manage their own lives happily and successfully expressed in broader terms the purpose of a school can be subdivided under three headings which are probably equally important and interrelated the first of thee is to impart knowledge and skills which will fit students for specific jobs such training must include the development of thought processes which will allow the individual to adapt to change second the student must achieve a fund of knowledge and a discerning outlook which will allow him to appreciate his cultural sociological and natural environment third the school must develop in a student habits of conscientiousness and a sense of stewardship which will allow him to work effectively in his job contribute to family and community life and finally to become a responsible citizen the newtyappoiritad
