a native of burtinfton mrs judy hahman received her b a at wettem university ahd her bachelor of library science from the university of toronto this is her fifth year teaching and her second at a d ii october 16 1968 5 oct 17-1s-19-m- i like to lead and i think it is important for young people to loam to enjoy reading says mrs hallman which explains why she is teaching library and fnglish however the admits that is she had known about her latent talents sooner she might have ended up at art college in her spare time she is a fiend for anything handycrafty an amateur potter mrs hallman likes to experiment with color and shape i have a lot of ideas if i ever have time to do them1 like wild things she has her own kiln and hopes to eventually buy a potters wheel she has sold some of her creations to friends and relatives and admits she would love to start a boutique sometime mrs hallman began her teaching career in jams collegiate in the heart of toronto where she had some pretty tough kids she claims her regular morning greeting to one class was okay you can put away the racing forms now one of her students asked her to the school formal that year but she declined commenting on the school library system mrs hallman feels that students are reading less in the last few years she tees hope in the use of specialized reading classes and remedial reading of course a lot depends on the background in the home she adds despite school days in the library mrs hallman is by no means a bookworm she skis in the winter enjoys riding and swimming and loves to work in the garden she also sews many of her own clothes mrs hallman claims she doesnt have any musical talent they wouldnt let me in the school choir she admits however she has had to develop mrs judy hallman an interest in music because her fatherinlaw has his own band and her husband tries to play the ukelele im not welleducated in classical music but i like all types of ja77 and a lot of pop music mrs hallman predicts that pants are the coming trend in womens fashions well be wearing all types of pants for all occasions she claims as for the boysthey seem to be perking up and i think its she h isnt my one newspaper issued to us by the university of guelph shows the irrational view of the student unions towards our educational system it suggests almost 16 the point of demanding that we take education jnto our own hands it pefers nonconformity aricl advocates the everdale place as an excellent school system why because the students dont have tq accept the responsibility omoing work there when asked why they- were in scuoiihe students answered became society says i have to be there therefore they did as little school wotk as possible and their parents supplied them with the money to go to everdale place do you think that whcil they get out into the world and get a job and are asked why they are working they will reply because society says that i have to work and then do as little work as possible not a chance they will be after the almighty dollar just like the rest of our society because there will be no one to support them if they dont want to work this is conformity and the necessity to accept the responsibility of knowing you must conform student unions talk a great deal these days about responsibility it is the basis of their demands for free education and a say in the decision making of our school systems however every day many demonstrations show that they are not capable of accepting and exercising that responsibility that they are little more than uneducated children being led by the discontented pied pipers who arent able to cape with our society that they do not want to listen to the few among them who have not been over educated and who huvc something intelligently important to say if anyone will listen responsibility the student union doesnt know the meaning of the word it tries for free education and fret student loans where is the responsibility in chanting we want free loans wasn t it the students who cut iheir own throats by utilising the loan system thus forcing the govcrpmtiit to crutk down on loans this repeats the students typical question what is society going to do for us why should society do anything for them when they achieve whul they asked for they only demind more they wjnl to slart their ftwn vouejy of irresponsibility ind an irthy c it is too bid hi it more students dun t know hie meaning of i he word responsibility hcciuse i feel that a lot of ptople ire inxious to accept student responsibility if the students show thai they tin ittcpt it themselves what else docs hie student union wanf here is whit a top spokesman for a student union in the united slates said immediate end of the vietnam war withdrawal of all american troops from foreign basis abolition of economic imperialism in end to the draft legalisation of m iriju 111 1 ind other psychedelic drugs livii disarmament beginning with the police abolition of moiity a program of full uncniploy ment in which tomputtrs would do ill hit work elimination uf nr ind water pollution the aviilabihly of frtc abortions and hirlhtonlrol supplies and information student participation 111 the tontrnl of education it is plain to see the good and had points of these insipidly inane demands it shows the communistic views of student unions why do they want to withdraw american troops from vietnam and oilier foreign bases they cut down communism and picket against american intervention in vietnam bui tell me whero were they when russia invaded czechoslovakia there were no pickets then demanding russia io get put of czechoslovakia it appears to me thai the student unions are backed by a sciuicommunintlc group intent upon destroying our structure of so icty they arc working on you the student in the hope that you will carry these views into i iter life when you the voter tin bring them to reality ridiculous these student unions are merely trying io make a mockery of our society they must be suppressed they want the abolition of irtoncy and economic imperialism civil disarmament anil full unemployment if these students want to get anywhere they had better come out of their little hedonistic world where noone has any responsibilityeven unto himself i would like to thank the school idministration for not showing prejudice and allowing the ontarion to be distributed i hope that its distribution along with the above will show students the absurdity and impracticably of student unions in todays society jane fonda jason throughout the aicj in guelph kitchener gait and teigus school otticials banned its distribution on school grounds and threatened o expel students caught reading the paper as a result the in thing o do was sneak a copy behind a park bush and absorb it as the gospel in translation in acton school officials agreed to its distribution encouraged students to read it and then discuss its merits in class iinic- the result here was an objective critical analysis on the pan ol the students most saw the literature tor what it was they picked out its few good points and threw out the rest as disgusting sensationalism this realistic approach should be applied in more aieas we aic hvtng with rapid mass communications and the days when tacts ot life could be hidden in the basement in the
