the acton free press wednesday november 20 1968 authorised m snml cu hu by tha snjrt oeflejfcsjjt osuwa for portao paid t crh i by wendy thomson while rummaging around down the bottom of the freezer last week stashed away under a pile of beef bones and pigs feci i found a very large pork roast that i had hidden for emergencies and forgotten about we have been on budget cuts for so many months that i was overjoyed to find this thing sitting there just waiting to be roasted and roast it i did with all the vegetables and trimmings to go with it i that riight everyone enjoyed dinner especially as tho youngsters had as much of the roast as they wanted and ord had almost as much as he wanted later o i tidied up the remains the cats appeared and sat themselves down in an unblinking row wg ting for ice crackling refuting to be intimidated by tha hound who sat looming over them and bycatlimg down their necks one retaliated hy breaking ranks and walking hack and forth under ins chin winding her tail around ins music i cadi lime it must he rather hard to fry and look fierce with a cat wreathed around the nose usually to keep peace while the cats eat the cracklings i give the dog a bone i think bones must have a certain smell or send out definite vibrations because rip knows every time theres one in a roast even if its just a tiny piece of joint hidden way inside hell check and doublecheck with his nose running it along the edge of the counter then hell rush oul to hunt up his masicr and tell him what hes found this is a very definite ritual rip will sit down in front of gord stare very intently at him and twitch his brown eyebrowspots a few times next he will chomp his teeth raise and lower his ears shift forward two or three inches then slowly let his eyes go crossed after sitting like that for up to five minutes if gord hasnt stopped laughing long enough to get the bone he will refocus take a deep breath and give a very undignified very undoglike and very loud burp that performance deserves reward what crimes next is also kresl performance but thats snorter story now that the bone and the skin have been distributed i can tend to the rest of the roast slicing what i can and cubing the rest to use in leftover recipes after the first surge of generosity i hoard the rest of the roast and dole it out in recipes that use very little meat with luck and scrimping i can stretch it over three more meals porkpir cook 3 cups uicect canoli unlu barely tender in small amount of boiling tailed ccatfr mell 3 tbtp fat over medium lieil add cup chopped onion
